Stephen Nuttall was born on Christmas Day, 1952, and grew up in Hackney, London, before heading off to boarding school. At nineteen, he joined the Essex Police, where he served until his retirement in early 2022.
Along the way, he trained a lively Cocker Spaniel named Jack, who became part of the explosives search team at the 2012 Olympic Games in Stratford. Jack now has a second career - appearing in every one of Stephen’s Secret Six adventure novels.
The books draw on Stephen’s own childhood experiences of sailing, camping under the stars, reading maps, learning Morse code, practising judo, and roaming the countryside.
His children’s stories celebrate the spirit of adventure: getting outdoors, getting muddy, discovering nature, and making the most of the fleeting years of youth.
